dog FERRETS TRIVIA

Just by knowing more about the pet, pet owners can provide better care for them. Not all pets are the same, and the ferret is no exception to this. Being familiar with the traits and characteristics of a ferret will greatly improve your chances of knowing and being able to provide their needs. This knowledge will even help you in providing a ferret cage that will suit the type of habitat they require to thrive. Below are some noteworthy details about ferrets.

The ferret’s name came from the Latin word furittus, which means “little thief”. If you have any experience with ferrets, you understand just how well that name fits them. Ferrets are well known for stealing and hiding anything they can carry. The scientific name for the ferret is mustela putorius furo. They are members of the Mustelidae family, also known as the weasel family, which includes badgers, wolverines, sea otters, skunks, weasels, mink, black footed ferrets, and polecats. You may have heard ferrets called other names such as ferts, fuzzies, carpet sharks, furballs, etc. The males are called hobs and are larger than the females. Females are called jills and the babies are known as kits.

Ferrets have a lifespan of about 7 to 10 years and live longer when well-nurtured. When excited, ferrets have been seen performing a strange routine. This includes a lot of sideways hopping and is known as the war dance. Despite the name it has nothing to do with war, but rather an exuberated invitation to play. Because ferrets are so active, quick, curious, energetic, and playful; they require a lot of sleep to have the energy that makes them so entertaining to watch. Ferrets require about 18 hours of sleep and they prefer to do their snoozing during the day. This is because ferrets do not have the best vision, but they make up for it with their sense of smell and hearing.

Now that you know more about ferrets, you are better equipped for caring for them. Since they require a lot of rest, it is important to provide them with a safe place to sleep undisturbed. By giving them a proper ferret cage, you are not only providing your furry friend with a safe place to rest, but also plenty of room to play. With out such a place, the ferret will surely play and sleep in your things. This can be cute at times, but it can also be bothersome and sometimes dangerous. The ferret could become trapped or hide something extremely valuable from you. Go ahead and explore our inventory for the perfect ferret cage for you.
